The England Amputee Football Association (EAFA)

🌍 Case Study: EAFA – From Momentum to Movement

Turning a landmark moment into a lasting legacy.

🔥 The Opportunity

In 2017, the England Amputee Football Association (EAFA) reached the final of EURO 2017, playing in front of the largest-ever live audience for an amputee football match and subsequently it has to become the most streamed amputee football match in history. England secured their part in history but sadly it was not the result they wanted.
It was a high point for the team — visibility, recognition, and competitive success.

But like many moments of triumph, it came with a question:
What next?

EAFA had the passion. It had the people. It had public attention.
But what it didn’t yet have was the shared identity, cultural clarity, or long-term plan to turn that momentum into a movement.

That’s where I came in

🧭 My Role

I joined EAFA in 2018 to help the organisation build something bigger than a moment. My role wasn’t to fix what was broken — but to unlock what was possible.

Through a combination of cultural facilitation, leadership development, and high-performance team coaching, I worked with players, coaches, and decision-makers to align around one powerful idea:

🟨 Together, WE Can.

This became more than a philosophy. It became a way of being — embedded into team behaviours, leadership decisions, and how the organisation shows up across everything it does.

💡 What We Did

✅ Reflected, honestly

We explored what EURO 2017 meant — not just what went right, but what was missing underneath. This created space for trust, ownership, and a shared reset.

✅ Defined who we wanted to be

Together, we shaped a performance culture built on belief, clarity and cohesion — not just ability. We created a collective mindset that prioritised:

  • Playing the plan
  • Staying focused
  • Supporting each other

✅ Embedded it everywhere

From national team camps to junior programmes, we brought these behaviours to life through real-world practice. This wasn’t theory — it was action.

📈 What Changed

This work laid the foundation for some of EAFA’s most meaningful growth and long-term impact.

Culturally, it created cohesion and psychological safety, giving the team a clear sense of who they were and what they stood for. Identity was no longer just about wearing the shirt — it was about living the values, together.

In terms of team dynamics, it built trust and accountability, replacing isolated effort with a deep mindset shift from “me” to “we.” Players and staff began to operate with a shared responsibility for each other's success.

On the pitch, it contributed to international podium finishes, most notably helping pave the way for EAFA’s 1st-place finish at the 2023 Nations League. But the real win was the consistency and focus that came from within.

From an inclusion and growth perspective, the cultural clarity and unity I helped create became the foundation for major expansions.

💬 Reflections from the Inside

“Tim has brought a culture and environment to the set-up which has led to success on an international stage.”
— Owen Coyle, Head Coach, England Amputee Football Association
“Tim supported not only myself but also the goalkeepers at EAFA. His approach was hands-on, on point, and personal — whether it was on the training pitch, in the changing room or in classroom-based sessions. He helped create a performance environment that purred like an elite sports machine.”
— Andrew Rohman, EAFA Head of Goalkeeping
“Tim consistently demonstrates his ability to tackle complex challenges and find innovative, realistic solutions. His knowledge of sports performance psychology and his ability to make people feel valued set him apart.”
— Scott Rogers, Head Coach, EAFA
“I was able to start my psychological journey with Tim, which involved identifying my values and beliefs — that helped shape my motivation and vision in the lead-up to the European Championships. The work we did, on and off the pitch, played a huge role in me progressing all the way from the junior set-up to the England senior team.”
— Sean Jackson, England Amputee Footballer

These aren’t surface-level compliments — they’re lived experiences that speak directly to the depth and legacy of the work:
🏅 Transformational,
🧠 Strategic,
💬 Personal, and
🌱 Long-lasting.

🎯 The Bigger Picture

This work wasn’t about a one-off win — it was about making sure EAFA had the clarity, capacity and cohesion to grow, inspire, and lead for years to come.

When I work with organisations, this is the impact I aim for:

  • Clarity of identity
  • High-performing culture
  • Collective resilience
  • People who want each other to succeed

Because that’s where real transformation happens — not just when we succeed, but when we do it together.

➡️ Want to create this kind of shift in your team?

If you’re ready to go beyond the surface — to unlock the deeper potential of your organisation and the people inside it — I’d love to talk.
